6 tips to turn New Year’s resolutions into reality
With New Year round the corner, it’s time to make that list of aspirations and goals. Here’s how to achieve them...• Be realistic: Wanting to go sky-diving if you’re afraid of heights won’t make it easy on you. Commit to a task that won’t stress you.
• Try making it public: When you commit to doing something and keep it to yourself, you’re not accountable to anyone. Make the mantra public so that someone can check on you.
• Don’t have a whole list of goals: Research has shown that the brain has the ability to concentrate well on just one task at a time and and then flexibly switch to another task, so keep your resolutions likewise.
• Remove all self-doubt: Negative thoughts of ‘how can I ever do this’ before you even start are wrong. It’s normal to feel fear, take that as par for the course and keep moving ahead.
• Make time to meditate or exercise: It’s a great idea to ponder over your resolutions while doing yoga or walking. It helps you reconnect with yourself.
• Dream of the rewards: Envision the benefits of sticking to your resolution, like a smoke-free life or those six-pack abs. Positive imagery always works.
